During World War II, the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix, AZ played an important role in the war effort. In 1942, the resort was leased by the United States government and converted into a military hospital for soldiers wounded in the war. 

The hospital was designed to accommodate up to 2,200 patients, and it had state-of-the-art medical facilities and equipment. It was staffed by a team of more than 400 doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel, who provided care to soldiers who had been wounded in the Pacific theater of the war.

Despite the challenges of operating a military hospital in a luxury resort, the staff at the Arizona Biltmore Resort managed to create a warm and welcoming environment for the patients. They organized social activities, such as dances and movie nights, to help lift the soldiers’ spirits and provide a sense of normalcy during a difficult time.

After the war ended, the Arizona Biltmore Resort was returned to its original owners, and it resumed its role as a luxury resort and residential community. Growth started and was fueled in part by the postwar economic boom and the increasing popularity of Phoenix as a winter destination for tourists.
